short hair

I'm still "Same Same ... but Different"

Sometimes it happens… It comes from deep inside… CHANGE. In my case change exteriorised itself in my hairdo. Why not do something compleeeetely different…?

  • So not sure you’ll recognise me when we meet next ;-)

There’s more and more of my friends who opt for a hairstyle defying the definition of “short”. Often their hair affair is not dictated by style, but by nature. Let’s say that I belong to the same age-group.

Working hard, (soon) traveling hard 23 October 2009

  • I’m writing a few publications (big time), in quite drastic conditions: a kitchen table, a hard chair and an office lamp stuck to a cupboard because no lamps on the ceiling yet (see pics below)
  • At the same time I’m moving house (again) from the cramped windowless shoe box in Louise to a huge room, with window this time but without furniture, nor curtains… (and lots of opposite neighbours). Thank buddha for cardboard boxes (see pics below).
  • And I’m organising some ’serious’ traveling before I start working at SALTO again in January (that will be tough!). But first 2 weeks of relaxing in Gran Canaria to be rested for another month of a concentrated sequal to my Asia trip: Philippines, Cambodia & christmas shopping in Bangkok ;-)

…so that’s why I’m a bit offline… Soon back with more stories.

You thought Belgium was in Europe?

You thought Belgium was in Europe?

Big sigh,… I have my moments of fighting the system… Sometimes Belgium just looks as if it were a ‘third world’ (developing) country. When travelling through Asia, I saw many things more developed than in Brussels…

Some examples:

Are you Blue or Yellow? 4 September 2009

Find out what colour you are (colours can vary, letters not)

Find out what colour you are (colours can vary, letters not)

No I’m not referring to you being a Belgian smurf or an Asian (who by the way are more like café au lait than yellow from what I’ve seen). There’s some companies earning big bucks with testing what colour people are.

  • Maybe you’re interested to find out what colour you are?
  • And what those colours mean and which colours you are compatible with.
  • It’s like horoscope: same same but different, more psychologically sound (let’s hope).

The world of Suits & Ties 30 August 2009

Is it (still) me?

Is it (still) me?

I was playing with the idea already a long time: Should I ‘grow up’ and buy a suit – for all those occasions of dressing up, without it being carnival all the same (weddings & funerals). When in Poland, 200% supported by my good friend & life coach, who’s living and loving the business world, I did make the jump into this very new world of Suits & Ties, learning all the unwritten rules & revelations. The result (pics below) does look oh-so-cool on me (they say ;-). The cost of this initiation: 300€.

The full-automatic house...

The full-automatic house... (Madonna concert on big screen)

Living in a shoebox, squatting my friends’ place, I started thinking about how nice it would be to have my own place. Or to have a place that I can make my own, preferably in the countryside, where there’s space and green

  • If you find some lovely big cheap and charming house in the countryside somewhere – LET ME KNOW ;-)

And then I went to visit my friend in Warsaw, Poland who’s crazy about gadgets and has built his apartment about 100% tailor-made – including a whole hoist of gadgetry. Why not?

  • Lots of cool ideas – now I only have to find the house that goes with it…

The amazing & amuzing disco fauna & flora

The amazing & amuzing disco fauna & flora

It’s more fun than watching television. The show is live and unpredictable. And you don’t even pay for it (besides the entrance fee). Yep, I went to a (gay) disco again after being absent from the party world for a long long time (what’s even more: I went in Antwerp and once again when I was in Poland). It does require some sacrifice, because it doesn’t start till 2am, but once the guys get going, there’s no end to the amazement & amusement. Till the lights go on at 6am, which turns this fairy tale into harsh reality.

  • PS If you have a categorisation of the Gay world (fun or serious) I would be happy to read about it – Add it in the comments below?

Love or leave Louise? 17 August 2009

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Louise

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Louise

No, Louise isn’t my new girlfriend. Also, it doesn’t refer to some guy called Louis or Lewis (I wish) but it’s the area where I’m living now. It’s in the upper part of town, with the fancy shops, the wannabe people and prices taking advantage of their snobbism. However, I’m lodging at the edge of this ‘beau monde’ (the beautiful world), where the seedy services to the chique people are hiding.

The Louise quarter I live in is catalogued as the fancy part of town – or at least that’s what the people there think – and that’s what you pay for.

My new territory...

My new territory...

Oh horror, I was homeless in Brussels. My former flat, furniture, job and friends were taken over by my lovely Estonian colleague. So where would I go, besides ‘regressing’ to mum’s place in the countryside (read here). Luckily enough two Samaritan friends of mine adopted me, like a wet puppy lost on the Brussels cobblestones. They didn’t feed me hot milk, but they did offer me a place to stay – a shoebox

10 reasons why gay marriage is wrong… 13 August 2009

Gay marriage in the US* is wrong! (*or substitute by any other country)

1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven’t adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans. (more…)

It's in the little things you notice that someone else is living in your appartment

It's in the little things you notice that someone else is living in your appartment (indeed, the pink shoes are NOT mine ;-)

When I arrived back to Brussels after a month in laid-back Portugal, I got a city-shock. I had forgotten there were so many people, traffic, pollution, noise, etc. I think I’m ready to move out of the city – but where to? As a test I’m setting up camp at my mum’s place in the countryside, because I rented out my apartment in Brussels for the duration of my sabbatical year. And then we’ll have a look in which quaint village there’ houses for sale.

Yep, that's me, in Coimbra, PT, and black hair

So I decided just to go on with my travel blog – since I’m still traveling ;-) As they say – the only thing that never changes is change… Portugal is a little less exotic than Asia, but there’s quite some differences (from Belgium) and similarities (with Asia ;-)

A thirty something guy

A thirty something guy

What age does the midlife crisis kick in normally? Maybe it is happening to me as we speak… I already wrote some posts about getting old(er) and now again one. I can feel the time ticking: I feel it in my bones, I notice it in the strength of my glasses (they’re gonna be back soon ;-( and I definitely don’t belong in a dance party anymore.

  • Maybe part of becoming old(er) is also complaining about getting old(er) ?
